Embarking on the Journey of Biological Data Science: A Guide

Before starting this journey, you might have had questions like, "What is the best way to learn biological data science? Where can I find the best courses? How much will this education contribute to my career? How can I stand out in this field?" It's important not to rush and to proceed with thoughtfulness. Concerns like, "I've enrolled in a course but there are negative reviews, should I reconsider?" are also natural.
However, remember that this journey is not disconnected from you or the world; on the contrary, it represents a fresh, new field offering an alternative perspective to your daily experiences. Becoming an expert right after completing your education is not expected. With time and practice, you'll develop and specialize as you gain new experiences. This education will refine you over time and provide a more contemporary outlook in your field.
While searching for courses, paying attention to reviews is important. However, I also recommend using platforms like LinkedIn. LinkedIn can help you connect with individuals who have valuable experiences. You can reach out to them directly, ask questions, and learn from their experiences. For instance, my focus was on researching instructors. Four years ago, the courses at the Data Science School directed me towards this journey, and here I had the opportunity to meet a mentor like Vahit Keskin. Later, I continued to research him and his institution, Miuul, and eventually decided to pursue education there.
After making my decision, I had some concerns. However, in the end, I decided to focus on both my master's education and data science training. After the school term, I joined the Data
Scientist Bootcamp Program and worked intensively throughout the summer. During this process, I found the opportunity to work with a great team and felt a deep sense of commitment. I experienced the joy of taking a significant step forward in this journey.
I also want to discuss some important points to consider while learning Python and other programming languages. Firstly, as a beginner in this field, it's important not to expect to grasp everything at once. This may seem a bit discouraging, but believe that this concept will provide comfort during the initial learning phase. When learning a new language, we are exposed to many conversations, visuals, and stories, but we may only learn a few words. That's exactly how it works. When you struggle or feel like giving up, remember this phrase: "I will learn all of this over time." After saying this phrase, you can comfortably continue working. If you like, you can place positive, self-motivating sentences where you can see them. They will surely keep your motivation alive.
Learning programming is a journey, and I'm here with you. In fact, no one can fully master it. Every day brings new information, new libraries, and countless code definitions, making it an endless ocean for exploration. In this ocean, you'll start by imitating what others do and gradually understand the logic. Think of it as a child imitating things.
I understand your desire to move quickly and accelerate, but these processes can sometimes disappoint you, motivate you, or even discourage you. When you see these through the eyes of a child, I believe you can overcome many difficulties.
If the learning process feels difficult or if you struggle to spend long hours in front of the computer, I recommend using the Pomodoro technique. You can use Pomodoro websites or ready-made YouTube videos to set your desired time interval and schedule. It's a great assistant for maintaining focus.
Another important point is that if you use social media, following influential individuals in the field, connecting with communities, and expanding your network will help you. Feeling like a part of a community will be reassuring on your journey. Just like how I reached out to you, you'll discover yourself within a valuable network.
